Torin Turns Three! A Firetruck Themed Birthday Party (with dYI decor)
My son has been talking about having a firetruck themed birthday party on a daily basis since last summer! He is a boy after my own heart – loves a good theme & starts planning well in advance 🙂 I have to admit this party was a lot more fun to decorate than I imagined it would be. The iridescent accents on the MeriMeri fire truck themed paper goods & garlands were so cute. Trader Joe’s came through with the perfect color-coordinating flowers, and I had fun making some burning buildings & a toddler-sized fire station to bring this theme to life. here’s a look at how I styled Torin’s birthday party, on a modest budget
Having a January birthday means no outdoor ice cream or pool parties so I wanted to do something fun to transform our living room for his special day. I made this fire station out of supplies from Hobby Lobby, without having to do any painting or complicated steps! These cardboard box “burning buildings” were the easiest DIY decor, and he had fun playing with them for several days afterwards with his new fire truck toys.

the table

Leave it to MeriMeri to have the cutest fire truck-shaped plates, with iridescent accents and the perfect complimenting paper goods to complete the look. I chose light blue and pale yellow accents to offset the bold red fire truck-themed decor.
I took advantage of a MeriMeri sale on their fire truck themed party package – which included the fire truck plates, cups, fire-hat centerpieces, and garlands for the wall. Then I added their wooden utensils & yellow striped napkins. I found these scalloped cream paper plates on Amazon, which are a more affordable dupe of the MeriMeri compostable ones.
Trader Joe’s is always my go-to stop for flowers! I was so excited to find this beautiful selection of flowers in the perfect color palate for the party ~ these are mini roses, dahlias, and St. John’s wort.

food & drink
I was so excited to try out a popular local cookie artist I discovered on Instagram, The Cookie Haven ~ and she did not disappoint! Every detail on these cookies was flawless, and they were the perfect complement to the simple homemade cake I made.
For snacks, we served “lil’ smokies” (aka pigs in a blanket) with red, orange, and yellow peppers. I like to keep the food simple, so we went with pizza delivery for lunch.

I loved this fire truck cake topper with Torin’s face on it! This printable design also comes in mini sizes, which would be so cute to serve on cupcakes with the faces of the birthday boy & his all little friends on the toppers. Avalon Sunshine makes these adorable name banner cake toppers which come in so many colors and fun themes. Torin recently learned the letters in his name, so this was especially fun for him to see on his cake!
The cake was supposed to be red velvet! I used some all natural food coloring that didn’t exactly turn red ~ oh well!
I like incorporating pictures from the previous year in the party decor, especially for an indoor party like this. Shutterfly has the option of printing these 4×4 square photos with white borders, which look really nice attached to some ribbon or in a collage. Torin happened to have quite a few pictures with fire trucks in them, so it was a perfect addition to the garland decorations for his party!
party favors

I don’t usually go all out for party favors, so I thought an “adopt a puppy” station would be cute and easy. I found these Dalmation Beanie Babies and added some red ribbon for collars. Here are a couple more “adopt a puppy” ideas that would be really cute ~
sound the alarm! the little firefighters had a blast
